Motivation Monday: Reviewing January’s Goals

By Stephanie Pitcher Fishman MotivationMonday 4 Comments

We’ve made it through the first full month of the new year!

I feel pretty confident in how I ended the month. Could it have been better? Yes. Did I meet all of my goals? No. That said, I had a few fun things pop up along the way that I hadn’t originally planned on: editing a project with a friend, snuggling a new baby niece, and enjoying a few of my daughter’s adventures. The key to success in this race of 2012 and beyond is moderation and understanding. (I guess that makes it two keys!)

mod·er·a·tion: noun
1. the quality of being moderate;  restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance.

Avoidance of extremes of excesses. I could focus so strongly on my goals that I pass up opportunities. I’m so glad that I didn’t do that.

un·der·stand·ing: adjective
9. characterized by understanding;  prompted by, based on, or demonstrating comprehension, intelligence, discernment, empathy, or the like: an understanding attitude.

Comprehension, intelligence, discernment, empathy, or the like: an understanding attitude. We’re jumping down to #9 for this one. Just as we call for discernment in our research and analysis we must call for it in our evaluation of our goals and accomplishments. It isn’t simply a question of whether or not we accomplished the stated goal but did we move towards our goal as a whole. We have to look at the big picture.

So, how did I do with my January goals?

One Small Goal: Writing
I didn’t meet my goal of publishing one Monday Memories article on my column. However, I did only miss one week. (Ok, so this week’s needs to still be added… remember talking about understanding?)

One Bigger Goal: Website
I still can’t believe that I got this done as quickly as I can! As with all websites it is a work in progress. I have some additional things that I would like to do with it. I have posts and series ideas that I’d like to include, but I’m happy to say that I love it how it is. What do you think? What needs to be changed or what would you like to see added?

Long-Term Goal: Education
I’ve finished a few more courses! I’m about to begin ProGen 15 on 1 February. I am making progress on the courses that I have open at the moment. And, I’m in the process of evaluating a long-term educational plan. I’m sure it will be tweaked, but I’m enjoying the process. I’ve been working on creating and organizing a workspace that will allow me to focus my attention, time, and energy during my work hours. I would love to have some notes about my long-term educational goals surround me as I work to keep me motivated. Perhaps I need a visit to Pinterest to look for more ideas….

How did your month wrap up? I’d love to hear all that you accomplished!

I have not recapped my month yet, but I am about to post February goals today, the month is too short to wait til the next Monday.

Your website is amazing and I would not change it, I am curious about the series you are thinking about.

I’ve also been cleaning up my workspace and have been thinking about how I can hang up my goals for the year and then each month also hang up what I want to accomplish as well. Will see what I can come up with.

As for pintrest, maybe you should send my an invite so I can see what the hoopla is about and if it can help me as well.

Keep up the good work, you are doing great!

I totally agree, moderation and understanding are the keys to keeping things balanced (and snuggling a new niece helps, too). That said, you had an awesome month by any measure. Your website looks fantastic and I can tell you’re excited about starting ProGen. Congratulations on starting the year off strong!
